A doula is a non-medical birth attendant. This is usually a woman who has attended many births, who provides continuous support for the pregnant woman and any family members.
I attend mothers- and fathers-to-be during labour and birth. We work together to keep the mother as comfortable and in control as possible. We work together to navigate the road of birth.
We meet 3 times before labour begins and 2 times once the baby is born.

"Evidence suggests that, in addition to regular nursing care, continuous one-to-one emotional support is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor."
The American Committee of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
Private hospital births - Most doctors and private hospitals allow for an additional birth attendants, so you have the option of truly continuous support during labor and birth.
Public hospital births - Prenatal preparation is critical here. A doula's prenatal, early labor and postnatal services are ideal support for first time mothers and set fathers up to be involved in birth.
Since the Hong Kong public hospitals allow only one birth attendant (usually the father), your doula will come to your home when you go into labor to help you manage early labor. She will also help you to coordinate the timing and logistics of your journey to the hospital.
"We couldn't have done it without you." W.
"Thank you for all you did. The Calmbirth class was really helpful to prepare us for the birth." Farhan
Doulas are a relatively new profession, so it's normal to want to understand more.
This list is out of date. I'll post a newer version with the current offerings in Hong Kong.
Most new mothers in Hong Kong want to breastfeed. Talk to me about how to get a good start.
